About: This small and charming place knows how to make breakfast with a twist. Forget about the humble bacon and eggs for a minute. Devon Cafe have created quirky and indulgent dishes which will please the crowds. I’ve been here on multiple occasions and every time the dishes are too pretty to eat. George and Gary would be happy to indulge their ocular appetite.
Food: This dish is very substantial and you could probably skip lunch afterwards – Breakfast with the sakumas. it’s almost a bit mad having a piece of salmon for breakfast, but each morsel is so tender and hard to resist. The 63 degree egg and the croquette accompany the salmon very well, and it goes without saying that a croquette isn’t complete with a bit of Kewpie mayonnaise on the side.
I consider the Salmon blini as traditional eggs florentine on steroids. When this dish was set down in front of me…I thought I made a mistake as I thought I ordered something ‘light’. My mistake, but a very happy mistake. I find from experience that a blini and hollandaise sauce can be a hit or a miss. This was definitely a hit. The blini was light and wasn’t too sweet to be like a pancake, but most importantly…it wasn’t soggy underneath. It balanced a very rich hollandaise sauce, but the most impressive part was the salmon and salmon roe. I’d recommend having a side of avocado to make this dish a bit “healthier”.
A recent addition to the menu is the Little lost toast. It’s found a cozy home at Devon Cafe. This is only for those with a sweet tooth, and also if you fancy a bit of ice cream with your brioche toast for breakfast. The freeze-dried berries add texture and there are enough “blobs” of raspberry to wipe up with the sweet toast. I thought it was a quirky take on fruit and toast.
Atmosphere: cute frontage off the path and a cozy area at the back. Restroom facilities are also available. A great place to meet friends, and the friendly service makes each visit a pleasure.
